10 True Stories That Sound Completely Fake

Some stories sound too unbelievable to be true.
But every once in a while, reality outdoes fiction.

In this feature from The Ten Files, we explore ten real-world events that seem impossible — yet every one of them is documented, verified, and part of history. These are not legends or myths. These are true stories that sound completely fake… until you look closer.

Ten — The Man Who Survived Two Atomic Bombs

In August 1945, Tsutomu Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on business when the first atomic bomb was dropped. He survived with severe injuries and returned home to Nagasaki — where, just three days later, he lived through the second atomic bombing.

Yamaguchi later became the only person officially recognized by the Japanese government as a survivor of both blasts. He lived into his nineties and spent much of his later life speaking out against nuclear weapons.

Why it seems unbelievable
Surviving one atomic blast is rare. Surviving two is almost impossible.

Why it’s real
His presence in both cities is documented by employers, medical records, and government recognition.
